Therapy and Coaching for Those Who Are Ready for More From Life

Nothing seems to be going right.
Your confidence is at an all-time low.
Everything gets on your nerves, and you frequently lose your temper.
Anxiety and depression have a constant hold on you.

Your professional life is in shambles.

Constantly stuck in low-paying dead-end jobs.

Deferring to bosses who pile on task after task with no regard for your well-being.
Sitting idly by while you’re passed over for another promotion.

Just thinking about standing up for yourself causes panic.

Your heart races, nearly pounding out of your chest.

Sweat pours from you, soaking through your clothing.

Thoughts swirl through your mind until you feel like you’re going to pass out.

Sleep has become a thing of the past.

With so much on your mind, sleep becomes impossible.

You try drinking to help doze off, but it’s a short-term fix.

Knowing that you have to face the day exhausted creates more stress. The cycle repeats.

You want desperately to find a loving partner.

But being sleep-deprived and hungover is not the best starting point.

And it seems that you’re always looking in the wrong places.

Constantly settling for partners who don’t value you.

Being treated poorly has a lasting effect.

It leaves a damaging imprint on your psyche.

Disempowering messages plant themselves in your mind and fester.

You get caught in a negative feedback loop from which it’s impossible to break free.
Stress manifests itself in everything you do.

It has begun to affect your physical well-being.

Friends and family never see you anymore, and they’ve started asking why.

You can’t concentrate when so many other things are on your mind.

Something has to change.

It’s time to take better care of your mind and body.

Stand up for yourself at work and home.

Refuse to tolerate people treating you like anything less than the
precious human you are.

Break Free From the Residuals of Complex, Chronic, and Acute Trauma in Frisco TX

At A Better You Wellness, we believe in the brain’s neuroplasticity. This is the brain’s ability to learn from its environment and to heal itself. We believe emotions are a form of energy. And enough energy, trapped at the cellular level, can manifest itself physically, creating symptoms which, on the surface, seem to be unrelated. When there is no healing of physical symptoms that persist and seem unresponsive to traditional medical solutions, unresolved emotions could be the culprit.

Because our unconscious minds learn more from bad experiences than good, we tend to develop strategies for avoiding bad experiences in the future. Often, these strategies are unhealthy, but no matter. As long as we avoid the pain from the original bad experience, we hold onto the same strategies for years. Even when the original reason for developing the strategy no longer exists.

Smoking, overeating, numbing, shopaholic, alcoholic, workaholic, other addictions, social withdrawal, and even relational difficulties can all represent unhealthy coping strategies. We develop these coping strategies sometimes because this is what was modeled for us. Sometimes the root cause is genealogical.

Embark on a Collaborative and Transformative Journey: Techniques for Overcoming Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, and more.

Navigating the path to recovery from trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more is a transformative journey. We believe in using a diverse range of methods and techniques as part of the therapeutic process. Each method is designed to address specific challenges and promote healing.

In addition to the techniques listed below, one of the most important factors in your healing journey is the therapeutic relationship between you and your provider. If you feel uncomfortable with your provider, nothing else really matters. For this reason, we strive to create a warm and welcoming environment.

Bring your whole authentic self to therapy and gain new insights and skills to navigate unchartered or difficult territory. Get support to express things which might be difficult to say. Release the past and embrace all the great things in your future. Boost your self-esteem, and feel the new sense of freedom and peace that comes when burdens of the past are lifted.

Some examples of therapeutic techniques we use for healing from trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more in individual, marriage, couples and family therapy:

1. Trauma-Informed Approach to Therapy

This approach involves accounting for clients’ trauma and its impact on their behavior, mental health, and ability to engage in treatment. I presume that you could have a trauma history and I take steps to avoid inadvertently triggering or re-traumatizing you in treatment.

2. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a common type of talk therapy. I work with you in a structured way, deconstructing your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Using CBT, you become more aware of destructive thoughts. We collaboratively co-construct new, empowering meanings and different perspectives which help you respond in a more effective way.

3. Polyvagal-Informed Therapy

Polyvagal informed therapy is a therapeutic approach that is based on the Polyvagal Theory which was introduced by Dr. Stephen Porges in 1994.. Using this theory, we will tap into the power of somatic or body-based approaches to help release pent up energy which creates the sensation of anxiety in the body. We use intentional movements to elevate out of depressive states. By learning to listen closely to our body’s response to daily situations, we can better recognize and regulate all emotions. Using a combination of traditional talk therapy and body-based approaches is like giving problems a 1-2 punch!

4. Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

SFT is a common type of short-term therapy used for a variety of presenting issues. It is a strengths-based model which is more focused on solutions as an approach to resolving problems. We collaboratively highlight exceptions to your presenting problem as a clue to resolution. We celebrate small wins along the way to accomplishing your goals.

5. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT is a therapeutic approach influenced by attachment theory. In EFT, we recognize the vital role that emotions play in our lives. This approach emphasizes the ways in which relationships can trigger core attachment wounds, helping couples to better understand their partners. We de-escalate tensions and translate each person’s internal experience, leading to shared understanding, increased empathy, and stronger attachment bonds.

6. Neurofeedback Therapy

We use an advanced, non-invasive form of neurofeedback therapy designed to train the brain to function at peak performance. Using neurofeedback therapy, the brain is presented with vital information as it changes states. The brain adapts based on the feedback presented, allowing for the reduction of maladaptive thoughts and behaviors over time. This is a valuable form of therapy which can be a great supplement to traditional talk therapy for individuals, couples, and family therapy. Can’t make it to the office? Ask about our neurofeedback rental program which enables you to train on the neurofeedback machine from the comfort of home. Continue reading for more info below.

Remember that not all therapies are appropriate for each situation. We will discuss your presenting issues and the best therapeutic approach, as well as any relevant downsides associated with a given approach.

I knew TJ Johnson was the perfect therapist for me the minute I hung up after my first consultation with her. I had a few consultations that week and no one took out an hour of their time to actually hear the pain in my voice like she did. I’m so grateful she came across my path.

T.J. is an amazing coach! Her preparation for senior leadership transitions into Director roles was extremely helpful in helping me to catalogue my accomplishment, succinctly answer interview behavioral questions and to create communications that got noticed by executive recruiters. Besides her great career expertise, T.J. is a person that leads from a holistic view and helps you to answer the hard question when changing careers: Where do I want to be in my career and will it allow me to be my best self?! Thanks T.J. for all of your tutelage.

I recently had an enlightening experience with A Better Snooze more specifically TJ. This was the best decisions that I made for my mental health in years. After two intense sessions of discovery of how childhood trauma and experiences can continue to impact your adulthood. I feel like I have tools to begin to understand who I really am. I found clarity in our conversations and passion in her tone. It was refreshing to share in a space of comfort. A Better Snooze is nothing to snooze at!! The sleep coach was able to help me recognize and assess my current sleep methods and determine ways to set myself up for better sleep. A week ago I had a remote Neuro Linguistic programming Break Through Session with TJ. TJ was very thorough and took time to get to the root cause of my issues. She asked difficult questions, gave me time to think and dug deep. She was very patient, I was ready to move on, but she knew that we did not discover the dipper issue yet and she kept asking questions. TJ is very professional; she made me feel calm and confident. It was very easy to talk to her. She helped me to release my negative emotions and I immediately felt lighter. At the end of BTS she made me set my goals and scheduled follow up session to make sure that I will follow through with them. After BTS I noticed positive change and I keep working towards my goals. I enjoyed working with TJ and looking forward to follow up call!
