Smoking Cessation

So. Much. Stress.

First, your favorite Aunt passed away.

Then, your cat, Buffy, died.

Fast-forward 12 months, and you learned that your husband of 20 years was having an affair with the office secretary. When you confronted him about it, he asked for a divorce.

The stress is so intense that you can’t concentrate.

It’s exhausting. It takes every ounce of energy just to get through the day without crying.

You look around for a shoulder to cry on – someone who might understand. You need a release.

One day, when your stress was at an all-time high…

Your coworker, sensing your trouble, offered you a cigarette during an afternoon break. It seemed to calm you down… for a while.

So, you picked up a pack of cigarettes on your way home, promising yourself you’d only resort to smoking when things became unbearable.

But it didn’t take long before you were going back again and again. Whenever the stress became too much to bear, you reached for them. And before you knew it, you were smoking a pack a day.

You got hooked. Just… like… that.

There are so many reasons you WANT to quit.

You KNOW it’s an unhealthy habit. You may have even had that point driven home by losing a loved one to lung cancer.

You hate the looks you get from strangers and passersby, wrinkling their noses in disgust. You’ve probably heard some of them make rude comments under their breath about how you smell like a chimney.

Then, there’s your physical appearance. You find yourself looking for new strategies to hide your graying teeth.

And let’s not even talk about the cigarettes’ COST. The price keeps going up and up!

Yet you can’t kick the habit.

Despite all the compelling reasons to quit, you can’t make it happen.

Each time you vow to stop, another tragedy pops up, sucking you into a whirlwind of drama. The reward center in your brain illuminates with delight at the mere thought of smoke, as it’s the only thing that even remotely helps you cope.

The thought of nicotine or any substance having control over your life mortifies you, but you’re trapped in this vicious cycle. You’re unhappy with yourself for succumbing to nicotine, which makes the drive to smoke even stronger.

You think about your first smoke and wish you could take it back. But you can’t do that – and you don’t know how to break the trap you find yourself in

What are you going to do?

Keep smoking your life away with the hope that the damaging effects will evaporate on their own.

Or proactively take control of the situation and create healthier coping strategies?

You know something has to change.

You’ll keep smoking if you don’t try something new.

Defaulting to the same coping strategies will keep you repeating the same behavior. Here’s what we’ll do to change your course: Transforming love into disgust… We’ll tap into your brain, taking its connections associated with something you HATE the taste of and mapping them onto the associations you have for cigarettes. This will turn your love for cigarettes into disgust for them – or, at the very least, make them neutral. The desire to smoke disappears when your brain’s reward centers aren’t activated at the thought of cigarettes.

  • Identifying and eradicating limiting beliefs…

We’ll look at the limiting beliefs keeping you in the habit. When you’ve internalized messages like “I’m not good enough” or “I have to be perfect,” they can contribute to the stress pushing you toward cigarettes. I’ll guide you through a visualization process to identify the roots of these beliefs and eradicate them.

  • Exploring and replacing your current coping strategies…

In a safe and welcoming environment, we’ll map out the strategies you currently default to whenever you crave a cigarette. We’ll examine why you’ve developed these coping strategies and work together to replace them with healthier ones.

Keeping you on the right track…

Smoking is a difficult habit to break, so we want to “lock in” the changes you’ve made to stop it. We will do 1-3 sessions of hypnosis to help you reinforce your new, healthier lifestyle habits. You will receive suggestions that bypass your conscious mind and speak directly to your unconscious mind. These suggestions address your reasons for stopping smoking and enhancing your ego and confidence.

When you feel better about yourself…

You’ll have the grit and confidence you need to avoid cigarettes. You can do all this without withdrawal symptoms, intense cravings, pesky patches, chewing gum, transitioning to vaping, or incurring the expense of nicotine replacement therapy. You CAN emerge on the other side of this and live the life you were destined to live. You’ve already taken the first step by reading this page. Now, take the next and reach out. Say goodbye to cigarettes and hello to clean air! I can’t wait to work with you!
